Our Coast to Coast adventure began one day in September 2007 when I popped into the newsagents one lunchtime and the cover of MBR caught my eye.
This was the first time I had really paid any real attention to the phrase 'Coast to Coast', words that were to become an integral part of our lives for the next 10 months, throughout the planning, training and the ride itself.
The Coast to Coast route was the brainchild of Alfred Wainwright and crosses 3 National Parks, the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. We used his route as the template for ours and the total distance was in the region of 200 miles. We were also to climb over 20,000 feet over the 5 days of the ride.

During October the team was finalised with 5 riders - Anthony, Buzz, Scott, Hywel and myself - and 2 support drivers, Nick and Jane, without whom this adventure would not have been possible.
Training began at the beginning of 2008 and final arrangements were made for the ride to take place at the end of June.
The idea of this website is to share the story of the ride and to inspire and help other people to do something similar.
The ride turned out to be one of the most amazing, testing and fun weeks of my life. I feel that I learnt a lot about myself and the friends that I had the pleasure of sharing this adventure with. I also learnt about the beauty an the vastness of the North of England and how small we really are in comparison to the wide open spaces our there.
Below are 4 photographs of the team at the beginning of the first training ride, before we left Brighton and at the beginning of the third day of the ride.
