The second ride was the brain child of Hywel, so if it goes wrong in any way, he will be the one to blame.

The first obstacle that we have to overcome is the journey to Glasgow. We are going to send the bikes as excess baggage. Whether entrusting our bikes to Easyjet was a good idea or not is something that remains to be seen.

The journey takes in the West Highland Way heading north from Glasgow to Fort William and then the Great Glen Way in an north-easterly direction from Fort William to Inverness.

The first day of the ride is 41 miles Milngavie to Inveranan. This is our first day on the West Highland Way. Although this is our Scottish 'coast to coast', the first day does actually take us in a northerly direction, we will ride/carry the bikes to the east of Loch Lomond and to the west of Ben Lomond.

I looks like a totally wonderful place. Somewhere to be when the weather is nice, somewhere not to be when it's bad.

Towards the north of Loch Lomond, we catch the ferry from Inversnaid to Inveruglas. This will give us the chance to see Loch Lomond whilst not riding and all avoids a lot of bike carrying if we were to continue up the east side of the Loch.

We finish the day in Inveranan, where we overnight at the http://www.beinglascampsite.co.uk in 4 man wigwams.

Day 2 of the ride is another 40 miles of a combination of West Hightland Way, roads and mountains.

The last part of this ride will be the Devil's Staircase then down to Kinlochleven.

The Devil's Staircase will without doubt involve bike carrying, but the reward at the end of the day is the beautiful town of Kinlochleven.

This is a video of riders on the Devil's Staircase.  It's a bit long, but you get the gist.

We will be staying overnight at

http://www.blackwaterhostel.co.uk/accommodation.shtml

.

Day 3 of the ride takes us from the West Highland Way on to the Great Glen Way.  We will bike over mountains and past Ben Nevis, down through Fort William and then on the Calendonian Canal and a reasonably easy ride to Fort Augustus.  42 miles is the total distance for Day 3.

We stay at http://www.moragslodge.com at the end of the 3rd day, near to the ancient ruins of Fort Augustus.

The final day takes us from Fort Augustus to Inverness along single track, old roads and canals, a total distance of 42 miles.  The last day should be the easiest ride, but I've said those words, so won't repeat them again.

Waiting for us at the end of day 4 will be the beautiful Inverness Castle, a celebratory whiskey and an Easyjet flight back home.

We are doing this for the 'fun' of it, but we are also raising money for the Cleft Lip & Palate Association.  If you have a spare few ££, please click on the link below to donate.

Thanks, Neil and the Scotland Coast to Coast Team.
